Waterfall Park and Hikes in Hamilton

"The third highest waterfall in Hamilton, Devil’s Punchbowl definitely makes our list of the best waterfalls in Hamilton. While the waterfall is impressive (see the picture below!), the water doesn’t always flow year round. (Some years it dries up before the fall, other years it’s still flowing.) Also lending to the impressive sight is the colourful layers of rock in the Niagara Escarpment."

"Devil’s Punchbowl Conservation Area consists of an incredible geologic wonder, the gorge, and its waterfalls. The Devil’s Punch Bowl formed at the end of the last ice age when huge meltwater rivers plunged over the escarpment. There are many colourful layers of rocks in the gorge, such as Cabot Head grey shale, Queenston Formation red shale, shale dolomite and limestone."

"Sherman Falls is actually located on private property but is open for the public to view. The water flows year round and is spectacular to see in the winter when the falls freeze over. The waterfall can be seen from the road, but is more impressive when you walk closer."

"Albion Falls is easily one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Hamilton, rippling over the Niagara Escarpment in Red Hill Valley. This incredible cascade waterfall you won’t soon forget stands 18 metres wide and 19 metres tall with the water tumbling over rock that’s transformed into steps and shelves over time. Although there’s no access to the bottom, Albion Falls is visible from two viewing platforms, so you can admire the gorgeous waterfall while being surrounded by lush greenery."

"You'd need to travel a long way beyond Hamilton to find a cascade waterfall as beautiful as this one. Safety concerns have reduced access to the foot of the falls, but the viewing platforms sill make for excellent photo opportunities of this natural wonder. The photo ops are endless at Tiffany Falls."

"At 62 feet (19 metres) Albion Falls is one of the most majestic waterfalls in Hamilton thanks to the steep cliff face and tree coverage. The large boulders on the bottom add to its majesty. In summer many people used to visit the waterfalls and bask in the sun on the boulders."

"At 41 metres high, it’s just a few metres shorter than Niagara Falls!. Located in the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area, which is part of the Hamilton Conservation Area, it’s very popular spot along with nearby Webster’s Falls. Access is not permitted to the bottom of the falls anymore but there are two platforms where you can view the falls and gorge."

"Note: Spencer Gorge—which includes Webster Falls, Tew Falls and Dundas Peak—will remain closed until September 2020 due to COVID-19. "Probably one of the most popular and most recognizable waterfalls in Hamilton, Webster’s Falls is part of the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area. Access to the bottom of Webster’s Falls is no longer permitted, but the waterfall can be viewed from a lookout platform, which is wheelchair accessible. There are other viewpoints along the trail, but the trail is not wheelchair or stroller friendly."

"If you are in the area for Dundas Peak, you will be in Spencer Gorge Conservation Area – where you can also hike to both Webster Falls and Tews. You have to pay to park at/enter Spencer Gorge but it’s apparently very worth it. Tews is the tallest waterfall in the region with a size comparable to Niagara Falls!"

"Borer’s Falls is a 49 foot (15 metre) waterfall that runs into Borer’s Creek which is a tributary that feeds the west pond of Cootes Paradise. It’s surrounded by lush, green trees and vegetation in the summer months and has a tremendous flow during the wetter months. It usually runs year round but can slow to just a trickle during drier times."

"Borer’s Falls, also known as Rock Chapel Falls, is a 15 metre (49 foot) high curtain waterfall, and its source is the Borer’s Creek. This waterfall used to power the Rock Chapel Village Sawmill. The sawmill was owned and operated by the Borer family, which is how the waterfall and creek got their names."

"Just down the road close to Chedoke Falls was another waterfall we set our to see: Cliffview Falls. After realizing (once again) that it would be hard to see this one from the road area, we parked in Cliffview Park. This was free to park and a great idea because we ended up having a short break here."

Unfortunately, we hadn’t planned that well because we didn’t realize you couldn’t see Chedoke Falls because it’s off Scenic Drive (the road).
